Training with Purpose: Evolving Methods, Mental Focus, and Lifelong Connections in the Saddle

Spending two months in Europe gave me the chance to dive deep into focused equestrian training—an experience that was both intense and transformative. During this time, I completed three separate training sessions, each lasting over a week. These weren’t just about riding better—they were about growing as a rider, a trainer, and a person.

What I truly enjoy about structured training is the stability it brings. It gives me the space to set goals, track progress, and reflect. Training isn’t just repetition—it’s development. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate how much thought and adaptation goes into becoming a better rider and coach.

Some of my oldest students have been with me for over 15 years. That longevity means more than just time—it means trust, growth, and a shared journey. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how far they’ve come, and it challenges me to keep evolving so I can continue to guide them.

I constantly work on modifying both my training methods and my own riding. Things change, and so do people. What worked five years ago may not work today. That’s the beauty of progress—it pushes you to keep learning, keep refining, and stay open to new ways of doing things.

But training isn't just about physical ability or technique. The social and mental aspects are just as important. I make a conscious effort to include these in my programs: how to think under pressure, how to warm up the right way, how to prepare mentally for a challenge. Confidence, mindset, and emotional balance can make all the difference in performance.

In the end, riding is a journey—not just from one competition to the next, but through constant self-improvement. And the best part? Sharing that journey with others who are just as passionate.
